The first INTA Junior Sparring Challenge took place recently in a packed to capacity Donnycarney Community and Youth Centre. The competition was confined to colour belt students under 13 years of age and competitors ranged from yellow belt up to red belts. The purpose of this event was to give students an opportunity to compete and gain competition experience in a friendly and non-pressurised environment. Clubs participating included Adamstown, Beaumont, Blanchardstown, Greenhills, Harolds Cross, Maynooth, Meath and Rush. Also attending this event were Master Val Douglas and Master Gerry Martin.
Juniors fought their hearts out with action packed bouts of sparring. The competitors showed great skill, spirit and determination and the overall level of courtesy and sportsmanship shown to fellow competitors throughout was tremendous. The atmosphere in the hall was electric with great support from the spectators urging all fighters on to new heights.
The competition was well organised with experienced referees who made good decisions. There was a good spread of winners throughout the clubs and it was a wonderful afternoon of Taekwon-Do for all involved. Many of the students used this as a practice run for the upcoming INTA International Open taking place in Kilkenny on the 10th/11th March.
