Update 7th March 2010
The venues for the remainder of squad sessions between now and the European Championships are as follows
10/11 April - Mid West
18 April - Cork
25 April - Dublin
If you wish to be considered for selection for the European Championships and have yet to pay your deposit (€250) or squad training fee (€75), this must be sent directly to Mr Carberry no later than Thursday 11 March. Please ensure you include your competitor application form and signed competitor agreement. Mr Carberry's address is
40 Alden Park
Sutton
Dublin 13
We will be ordering tracksuits over the coming weeks for any competitors new to the squad. The cost of the personalised tracksuit, t-shirts and kit bag is €140. The tracksuit is mandatory for anybody travelling to Sweden but any member of the squad may order one even if you are not travelling. If you wish to do so, please let Mr Carberry know by e-mail by Friday 12 March (liamcarberryfps@eircom.net).
If you are travelling to Sweden and wish us to book accommodation for you, please contact Mr Carberry directly. As all deposits for accommodation need to be paid next weekend, you must also send on a deposit of €250 to cover the cost of the accommodation. As with competitor deposits, this should reach Mr Carberry no later than Thursday 11 March. If you are still unsure whether or not you are travelling, or wish to organise your own accommodation, we can put you in touch with the Organising Committee closer to the time.
In order to minimise costs to competitors, we will be running a series of fundraising nights during the coming weeks. The fundraising nights will be timed to coincide with squad training weekends and will take place in the Mid West, Cork and Dublin. More details will follow over the next few weeks. All funds raised will be pooled amongst all competitors.
Update 24th February 2010
Update 14th February 2010
Selection process
Team and individual positions will be selected over four events using a combination of performance at training sessions and performance at the INTA Open.
Session Date Venue
Session one 13/14 February North Mon, Cork
Session two 27/28 February venue tbc
INTA Open 13/14 March National Basketball Arena, Dublin
Session three 27/28 March venue tbc
As the INTA Open is open to International competitors and has merged categories in some instances, the INTA Open will not function as a final trial but your performance at the event will be taken into account. If the coaches deem it necessary to have a final trial between evenly matched competitors, they will do so on the weekend of 27/28 March. The full squad will be named on Sunday 28 March.
The fee for the three weekend sessions is €75 which will be payable at session two. This fee applies whether you attend one, two, or three weekend sessions. We expect that if you are considering competing in Sweden that you will attend all three sessions. Entry fees to the INTA Open must be paid directly to the organising committee
Preparatory sessions
Competitors who are named as part of the squad should be ready to make themselves available on the following dates
Although the preparatory sessions are targeted at competitors who will compete in Sweden, we would encourage as many people as possible to continue to attend as they will also serve towards the development of the squad to compete at the 20111 European and World Championships.
Costs
As well as the €75 fee for the three selection sessions, we estimate the costs of attending the Championships as follows
Paperwork and Logistics
For session two, all competitors must bring the following:
€75 fee
Passport
ITF Degree Card (photocopies are not acceptable. If you do not have a copy of this card, please contact your National Secretary immediately)
Competitor Agreement signed by you, your Instructor and in the case of minors, your parent or guardian. You will not in any circumstances be permitted to train without a completed Competitor Agreement.
Competitor application form and health check
Deposit - the amount will be confirmed during the next week.
Communications
All notices will be published on the websites of both the INTA and ITA. In addition, we will send email updates directly to competitors. Any instructors or parents who wish to sign up for these updates can do by contacting me directly.
Update 8 February 2010
The European Championships take place in Skovde, Sweden from 30 April - 2 May 2010. The Championships represent another opportunity for Irish competitors to pit their wits against the best in Europe and to build on the success of the last few years.
As part of the preparation for the championships, we will be running a session for everybody who is interested on Sunday 24 January 2010 from 10 - 4 in Rivervalley Sports Centre, Swords, Co Dublin. This session does not form part of the selection process for the European Championships but has been designed to provide an opportunity to train with the National team coaches prior to the commencement of the selection process. The session will also provide an opportunity to outline the selection process for the 2010 European Championships, the training plan and the potential costs.
Selection for the Championships is open to all members from 1st Degree and above who have either an Irish passport or who hold an Irish Black Belt certificate. As the World Championships in New Zealand are only 15 months away, we will be opening up this session to 2nd Kup and above in order to assess potential.
In order to ensure that we are fully prepared, can each instructor please indicate to me, how many, if any, members from your club will attend.
The fee for the session is 10
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me either by email or phone.
Yours in Taekwon-Do
